It is a world-scale unique flocking and nesting place for migratory birds where rare, natural and nearly unspoilt watergrasslands serve as home to a number of rare and protected species of plants and animals in Latvia and Europe. Here you can see different cattle and horses grazing in the floodplain.
In the spring, the floodplain meadows of Dviete are flooding. Local inhabitants call this phenomenon as the fifth season. It is a popular place to go boating on flooded meadows in spring.
