This year’s first exhibition season with seven new exhibitions will be launched at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre the following Friday, 2 February, at 4 p.m.
Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre’s first exhibition season runs under the theme of questions. It raises a number of pertinent concerns, which the artists explore and answer in their projects. And yet, the artwork also leaves some of these questions tantalizingly unanswered, inviting the audience to step in and join the reflection of contemporary artistic processes and the issues that they address.
A number of compelling questions is raised by six Latvian photographers in their group show “Looking Outside, Looking Inside”. In his one-man show “The Path of My Questioning”, Harald Jegodzienski meets us with enigmatic symbols and explanations that resist clear and immediate interpretations. Fundamentally feminine concerns are addressed by Jolanta Ābele in her project “Rhapsody to Womanhood” and by girls in ceramic art – Elīna Titāne and Sanita Ābelīte, whereas Lilija Rage questions the properties of colour in her textile compositions. No less striking and questions-oriented are two more exhibitions – “The Beauty of Chance” by Norwegian artist Jon Arne Mogstad and a collection of contemporary watercolours by a group of Latvian artists.
At 4 p.m. through 5 p.m. on 2 February, during the opening ceremony of the new exhibition season, all these exhibitions will be available free of charge.
The new exhibition season will be open to the public until 8 April 2018.
