From 30 June, ceramic artist Ilona Abdulajeva offers her latest solo show, “Somewhere the Sun is Shining”, at the glass exhibition space of the 4METRES Gallery in Daugavpils Fortress, 8 Hospitāļa Street.
“Clouds are a changing substance with an abstract value. Real but intangible, they irritate the mind, feelings and emotions like a childhood association game, conjure up various images, reflect in puddles, carry thoughts to distant lands. They bring both floods of misery in spring and refreshment in the July steam,” says the artist about the exhibition.
Daugavpils-born artist Ilona Abdulajeva currently lives and works in Preiļi. She trained at the Daugavpils Secondary School of Design and Art “Saules”, graduating in 2000. Ilona is very involved in the Daugavpils Ceramics Studio “Latgale” and Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics whilst maintaining an ongoing teaching career at a children’s art school since 2005. With several solo shows to her name, she keeps active across art exhibitions and international symposia in Latvia and beyond.
To quote from the artist: “I’ve been doing ceramics since childhood. It’s been dear to me all my life. When I participate in international symposia and exhibitions, I get acquainted with the works of world-renowned contemporary ceramic artists and meet many of them in person. This inspires me to experiment with different ceramic materials, self-made glazes and firing techniques. My journey has just begun.”
The exhibition in the 4METERS Gallery is on show until 15 July.
