On Friday 26 April, in cooperation with Boris Lurie Art Foundation, an exhibition “Artist and Witness” by world-famous artist Boris Lurie, founder of the NO!art movement, will open at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.

On Friday 26 April, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Centre will celebrate its sixth anniversary with a lecture, a film screening, a discussion and the opening of the new exhibition season.

Daugavpils Tourist Information Centre will be open every day from 10:00 to 18:00 from April, 1st till September, 30th.

The exhibition “The Great Jews of Latgale” can be seen at the Jewish of Daugavpils and Latgale Museum. It is a permanent exhibition that includes five stands with information about 125 Jews who were born, worked, lived or still live in Latgale.

Daugavpils restaurants and cafes welcome everyone to taste special dishes of the VI Restaurant Decade that is held from 10th to 20th March, 2019. The topic of the Restaurant Decade is “Spring notes”.

By way of celebrating the Centenary of the Latvian State, “Basics”: Baltic Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Ceramics will be displayed in Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre from 5 July until 8 September 2019. The exhibition and accompanying conference will explore to the formation and development of professional ceramic art in the Baltic States.

Daugavpils has its own special menu, which can be tasted only in Daugavpils. Daugavpils City Municipality Tourism Development and Information Agency cooperating with Daugavpils catering businesses made a renewed Daugavpils menu and have made a new booklet “Daugavpils menu”, which offers special dishes.

On Friday 1 February at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will be opened contemporary art exhibition of sixteen artists in painting, photography, graphics, sculpture on the theme beautiful side of truth and the truthful side of beauty.

On January 27th, Lithuanian tourism exhibition “Adventur 2019” was concluded at Vilnius Exhibition Centre “Litexpo”. A wide tourism offer of Daugavpils, Daugavpils district and Latgale region was popularised at the exhibition for three days. The exhibition “Adventur 2019” is the biggest event of the year in the Lithuanian tourism industry. More than 12,000 people attend the exhibition every year.

The new exhibition season, open to the public from 1 February until 14 April, features such shows as “The Play of Light and Dark” by Inta Celmiņa and Edvards Grūbe, “Internal Uniformity” by Wang Shaojun, “Moments” by Belarusian watercolour painter Alexander Karpan and “Architecture in Painting” by Oļģerts Krauklis.

To celebrate the 88th birthday of Pēteris Martinsons, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre suggests taking a different view on the artist through an exhibition aptly named “A Different Martinsons”. It features select artwork from the Rothko

Daugavpils District has been recognised as the friendliest region in Latvia in relation to the traveling with the dogs. This fact was reported by representatives of the “Ar suni” (“With the dog”) project. There are 32 dog friendly places in Daugavpils city and surrounding area.

The tourist season went well in Daugavpils in 2018. According to statistics, the total number of visitors to Daugavpils tourist attractions, culture and recreation establishments has increased by 8% compared to the previous year, reaching 550,707.

Last weekend, with valued support from the Embassy of Latvia in Poland, the first exhibition on Polish soil from the collection of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre was opened at the Creativity Centre of Targowa, Warsaw.
