Boris Lurie “Artist and witness”
Boris Lurie “Artist and witness” exhibition is available at the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre. Boris Lurie (Jul 18, 1924 – Jan 7, 2008), an American artist and writer, born in Leningrad into a Jewish family and grew up in Riga. Lurie’ work is currently held in the collections of the National Gallery of Art (Washington, D.C.) and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA; NYC), Whitney Museum of American Art (NYC).).
Exhibition of the works of The Funen Printmaking Workshop
The Funen Printmaking Workshop has a vision to be an integral part of Danish art life, especially in printmaking. Its goal is to boost the discipline of printmaking by offering a functionally equipped studio and exhibition space. This exhibition will showcase the work of 80 members of the Funen Printmaking Workshop, featuring over 150 printmaking techniques. Thus, they will tell a story of the Danish traditions of graphic art and seek an engaged conversation with Latvian graphic artists and graphic art enthusiasts.
"Peace and Tension" exhibition
Representatives of creative professions in Latgale – ceramicists, painters, graphic artists, photographers – have so far convincingly shown that their performance is harmonious and appropriate rather than dependent and disruptive. No doubt, everybody imagines and conceives the year 2019 very differently from the peace and tension of the previous year, also the previous decades. By combining our understanding of the capacity of both phenomena to be mutually complementary and harmonised, we try to shape and show ourselves on a better and higher level. Is Latgale able to offer a different view of peace and tension in various forms of art?

Zsófia Karsai's exhibition "Step by Step"
The wall could be the wall of consciousness – a symbol of safety and protection. Or perhaps it is safeguarding from the harmful effects of the outside world. It might also be a barrier between different emotions or perhaps a prison, a banister or an obstacle. We have all been walls and we have also stood on both sides as well. It is up to us where we choose to be.
Daugavpils City Festival 2019
City festival is celebrated with an extensive program of events. This year, during the three festival days, the city stages will welcome huge amount of Latvian music bands – as we have so many talents! This time the focus is also on spirituality: for the first time, concert programs will be held also in churches.
Art night - DAUGAVPILS IS ART
An event, which as a multidisciplinary project, combines different arts and flourishes at the beginning of Daugavpils City Festival as a bright flower, which doesn’t leave indifferent any of the Daugavpils Fortress visitors. Event is organised in a cooperation with Association of Art Teachers, other Latvian cultural organisations and partners abroad. There is a presence of at least 15 different culture media in the event, therefore it is represented in Latvia and abroad.
