The season of active tourism will be opened in Daugavpils with a bicycle ride at the end of April. On April 29 at 11 a.m. a bike ride along the city streets and promenades with a city guide will begin. Daugavpils City Municipality Tourism Development and Information Agency invites everyone who loves active lifestyle to participate in this event, that is organised in cooperation with the tourist club “Sniegpulkstenīte”.
At 11 a.m. the participants of the trip will gather at Vienības Square and will start the ride along the city’s streets and promenades to Daugavpils Fortress. There will be a short bicycle excursion with a tourist guide, who will also participate in a bike ride. Also, on this day, the traditional flea market will take place in the Daugavpils Fortress. The journey will continue along the marked bicycle route No. 35 till Stropi Active Recreation and Sports Track. Then the participants will reach the Large Stropu Lake where they can enjoy the beauty of the lake by riding along the cycle paths for a few kilometres. The trip will continue to the Rugeļi reservoir, which is an artificial water body that was created in preparation for the construction of the Daugavpils Hydropower Station. Then the participants of the trip will reach the promenade of Bruģu Street and end the ride at Vienības Square. The cyclists will be accompanied by a certified guide who will talk about the history and present day of the city of Daugavpils. The approximate length of the route is 35 km.
A coffee and tea break, as well as other surprises, are planned during the trip.
Participation at the event is free of charge.
Important: participants of bike ride must use a protective helmet. The law states that a helmet is mandatory for children under 12 years of age. Children can participate in the trip only when accompanied by parents or other adults, who confirm their responsibility with a signature.
