At 4 p.m. on Friday 20 July, the opening of an exhibition of artwork by participants of this year’s International Ceramic Art Symposium “Ceramic Laboratory” at the Rothko Centre will mark the beginning of the symposium’s sixth iteration.
Latvia continues to celebrate ceramics. The 2nd Latvia International Ceramics Biennale, which featured an intensive programme of events, is almost immediately followed by the 6th International Ceramic Art Symposium, which will start the coming weekend and bring together international artists who work in the field of contemporary ceramics. The symposium is organised by Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics and Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.
This year’s symposium has brought together 14 artists from 10 different countries: Toru Kurokawa (Japan), Alena Muhina (Russia), Mudita Bhandari (India), Eglė Einikytė-Narkevičienė (Lithuania), Zinaida Blyzniuk (Ukraine), Nizam Orcun Onal (Turkey), Dawid Żynda (Poland), Zsófia Karsai (Hungary), Andreas Vormayr (Austria), Inita Reimandova (Latvia), Lilija Zeiļa (Latvia), Ilona Abdulajeva (Latvia), Una Gura (Latvia), Sanri (Latvia).
The symposium will run from 20 July until 2 August. It will feature lectures, master classes and firing of ceramics. Full programme of events will be available from 26 July on www.rothkocenter.com, www.latviaceramicsbiennale.com.
The 6th International Ceramic Art Symposium will close on 3 August at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre with the opening of an exhibition of its participants’ work, at the end of which artists will receive certificates for participation.
