On May 7 the 8th International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium was officially started at Daugavpils Mark Rothko art Centre.
The 8th International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium is once again organised by Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre in cooperation with Art Teachers’ Union within the framework of the centre’s residency programme. Although this will be the eighth iteration of the symposium, it has not lost its appeal or relevance for it continues to attract international artists and reaffirm the importance of graphic art on the global stage. Diverse geographic backgrounds of the artists selected by a panel of judges will give an international ring to the locally titled symposium that bears the name of a specific Latvian region. This year, the symposium will once again bring together 8 artists from different parts of the world.
The symposium was opened at 3 p.m. on 7 May with artist presentations in the course of which the participants introduced themselves, described their preferred techniques and sketched out some of the ideas to be implemented in the course of the symposium.
An exhibition of artwork created at the symposium will open at 4 p.m. on 18 May at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.
Supporters: Daugavpils City Council, State Cultural Capital Foundation.
