On Sunday, the 1st of August, the annual Tourism Triathlon, organized by the Tourism, Recreation and Culture Agency “TAKA”, took place in the nature park “Daugavas loki” in Naujene parish, Augšdaugava district, in the territory of Slutišķi and Dileviči villages.
This year the event was not based on the competition, but on attentiveness, ingenuity, enjoying nature and getting to know the wide range of tourism opportunities in Augšdaugava district. The aim of the event is to popularize an active lifestyle, recreation in nature, as well as to popularize one of the most beautiful sections of the river, where the Tourism Triathlon took place.
14 teams came to enjoy the exciting summer adventure, including participants not only from Daugavpils, Augšdaugava district, but also from Riga, Ventspils, Ādaži and even a guest from Germany. It is very interesting that the participants represented different age groups. The youngest participant Jegors Karpovs was 5 years old, while the oldest participant Romāns Saušs was 87 years old.
The tourist triathlon track was divided into three stages. The start was given in the picturesque camping “Daugavas lokos”, where participants who did not have their own bicycles or boats could rent them. Participants were boating, cycling and walking. The competition was not for speed, but every participant had to fit in three hours. The most interesting task was photoorientation, because during both boating and cycling, participants had to find different places and objects. There were prepared and offered 12 images or checkpoints that everyone had to find and photograph. The main task was attentiveness and ingenuity.
There was sunny weather and, despite the strong headwind, kayaking down the Daugava river, all participants did all the tasks, and all stages of the adventure were successfully overcame. Only six teams managed to find and take photos of all 12 checkpoints. The winner of these teams, in the form of a lottery, became the team “Ohaio”, consisting of Kristiāna Siliņa and Zanda Lisovska. We sincerely congratulate the girls on their honorable victory once again! The girls had received a special memorial prize – a stylized wooden clock made by the workshop “Urtawood” from Pilskalne parish. The owners of the workshop also successfully participate in the development of tourism and offer not only a shop with products, personalized master classes, but also tree recognition quizzes and tours in the workshop.
The other participants of the event had also received small prizes. In the end, in the fresh air, after an active day and adventures, every participant could enjoy a delicious porridge, prepared by the cafe “Baltais krogs”.
The most important and pleasant thing is to hear positive feedback from the participants and a great desire to participate in the Tourism Triathlon next year as well. Thank you all for the great mood, fighting spirit, perseverance and friendliness! See you next year!
