The Daugavpils Palace of Culture is the largest concert hall in Daugavpils and one of the largest and most visited concert halls in Latvia. The Cultural Palace hosts a variety of events, including Latvian and international shows, theatre and ballet performances, festivals, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, competitions, and other events.
The main concert hall is designed for 1,070 spectators, including 8 seats for people with special needs.
On the second floor of the building, visitors can see the largest stained-glass window in Latvia, titled “Fire and Night” and created in 1971. The authors of the stained-glass window are the watercolorist and stained-glass painter Egons Cesnieks and architect Andris Purvins.
The artwork was created according to the work of Janis Rainis, inspired by Andrejs Pumpurs’ epic poem “Lāčplēsis”. This large-format composition serves as both a prologue and an epilogue to the story of “Lāčplēsis”.
